Spring 2003
|
The West Quoddy Head Light Keepers'
Association (WQHLKA) will open the Visitor Center to the public, on May 24,
2003.
New exhibits this year honor the Coast Guard
and the Keepers of West Quoddy Head Light Station, and also include a giant
navigation map of the region, a tide clock and a new Channel Light display. |

The Officers of the Association and various
WQHLKA committees have accomplished a great deal during the Winter months. The
Public Relations Committee completed advertising copy for insertion in the
coming season’s Maine travelers’ guides and also completed the redesign of the
website www.westquoddy.com. The new web
site includes several new links, giving viewers a wider perspective of the
attractions in and around our community, as well as up-to-date listings of new
Business members, providing viewers with information on Where to Shop, Where to
Eat and Where to Stay and What to See/Do in Lubec and the surrounding area. The
Membership Committee began this new membership drive in early February and are
delighted with the results thus far. We anticipate the number of new Business
members increasing in the coming weeks.
On Saturday, June 28th, from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, the First Anniversary
Celebration will be held at the Visitor Center. Speakers include Maine State
Representative, Al Goodwin, Coast Guard District Lighthouse Chief Officer Sam
Hill. Food and beverages will be made available by Bold Coast Smokehouse, Sun
Porch Industries and Seaside Chocolates. Live Music will be provided by folk
singer, Noel Veilleux, Gabe Lowery’s Band Animal 56 and a student band from
Lubec High School. Raffle tickets will be sold for new 2003 lighthouse theme
items. The Coast Guard will offer tours up the tower, and the Postal Service
will be on hand with a unique cancellation designed for the occasion.
An advertising campaign is beginning in early March, to recruit additional
volunteers to help staff the Visitor Center this Summer. The Board is grateful
to the core of volunteers who have remained with us over the Winter months and
who intend to help staff the Visitor Center again this coming season.
The Officers of the Association wish to express their appreciation for the fine
work done by last Season’s Art Gallery Manager, Eileen Fitzpatrick, and Visitor
Center Manager, Debbie Sprague.
See you this Summer!
