Spring 2004
|
The West Quoddy Head Light Keepers'
Association (WQHLKA), will open the Visitor Center to the public on May 29,
2004. Hours will be 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM, seven days a week, through mid-October.
The Officers of the Association and various
WHQLKA committees have accomplished a great deal during the chill Winter months.
The Exhibits Committee has added a new, small exhibit, comparing West Quoddy,
the Easternmost Point of the U.S., with the Northernmost, Westernmost and
Southernmost points, by map and photos. The Visitor Center now also provides a
"photo-opportunity" for taking family photos, looking out of a seven-foot tall,
flat cut-out of the lighthouse - see photo at right.
The Public Relations Committee completed
advertising copy for insertion in the coming season's Summer Guides and also
completed an update of the Merchandise page on
www.westquoddy.com. Now, as well
as the ever-popular Polo Shirts and the U.S. Lighthouse Society Passports, the
Fund-Raiding Committee identified and had made, three new fund-raising items for
sale. Go to our Merchandise page to view the items! |

The Membership Committee began a 'new membership' drive in early March and are
delighted with the results thus far. We anticipate the number of new Business
Members increasing in the coming weeks. Renewal notices have been mailed to our
existing Individual, Family and Business members, whose memberships expire at
the end of June, 2004.
Diana Wilson, Art Gallery Committee Chair, President of WQHLKA and Manager of
the Visitor Center, has recruited additional volunteers to staff the Visitor
Center as well as identified local artists who wish to exhibit their work in the
Art Gallery. The Board is grateful to the core of volunteers who have remained
with us over the Winter months and who intend to help staff the visitor Center
again this coming season.
