Spring 2005
|
The West Quoddy Head Light Keepers
Association (WQHLKA) is looking forward to the coming season and will open the
Visitor Center to the public on May 28, 2005. Hours will be 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM,
seven days a week, through mid-October.
The Board of Directors of the Association and
various WHQLKA committees have accomplished a great deal during the Winter
months. The Strategic Planning Committee has formulated goals for the next
several years and members have given us some very positive feedback on them.
Some of the goals include pre-season activity and we are making every effort to
get several things done before opening day on May 28th. |

We are hoping to increase the number of
volunteers to staff the Visitor Center, as well as conduct a new business
membership drive in May and June. We also believe we can
secure an original work of art again this year, for raffling this season. More
on this later! The Exhibits committee has been busy preparing two new special
exhibits. That is, fragments of the 19th Century copper dome (see photo above)
will be on exhibit, as well as a U.S.C.G. uniform and a replica of a Lighthouse
Service uniform.
The Advertising/Public Relations committee has arranged for a new road sign to
be installed on southbound U.S. Rte 1 before the left-hand turn onto Rt. 189 to
Lubec. The website also has a fresh new look, as well as a new page of
Historical Data and several new images throughout the site. Do check out the
merchandise page, where we have our 200th Anniversary collectible merchandise on
display, and information where it can be purchased. This committee has also
submitted copy for this season’s Summer Guides and has listed the 3rd
Anniversary Celebration date, June 18th, and a brief outline of the festivities,
on various tourist-targeted on-line calendars.
By June 18th, the Board of Directors is planning to have an engraved granite
stone embedded in the ground, adjacent to the Visitor Center, designating the
easternmost point of the U.S.A. More on this later!
The Board is grateful to the core of behind-the-scenes volunteers who have
worked hard for the Association during the Winter months and to those up-front
volunteers, who will be staffing the Visitor Center again this coming season.
We look forward to seeing you at the Visitor Center this Summer!
