Lubec Maine is the easternmost town in the U.S.. First Settled in 1785, and Incorporated in 1811, Lubec was at one time, the sardine canning capital of the world. It was a busy seaside town on the ship route to Boson with its own department stores, active waterfront and Movie theatre. In the last several decades the caning industry has closed down, but many of the town's citizens continue to work in commercial fishing. Walking along the town's miles of shore line at low tide, many of the canning factories still exist as ghosts of piers and brick. Across a small bridge at the foot of Water Street, is Campobello Island, New Brunswick, Canada. Campobello Island is home to Franklin Delano Roosevelt's summer home and an International Park open to visitors.
Check out below to see some of the local businesses that support the lighthouse.
Lubec has many choices from intimate B&Bs to traditional inns and motels to individual houses for rent by the week or month.
